Grateful to a grandmother

The Rug Bear was written a while ago. I had been working on another picture book text which wasn’t really going anywhere when the idea of a bear, falling asleep in a wood and being mistaken for a rug, popped into my head. The rhymes followed quickly, the word ‘bear’ being fairly easy to rhyme and soon The Rug Bear was written down.

‘What is that brown furry rug doing there?’said Mouse

She didn’t know the rug was a bear.

I was lucky to have a grandmother who wrote and illustrated poems for all her grandchildren. These poems were quite quirky but we all loved them. They gave me the idea that it was normal to write in rhyme.

More to follow soon…
